Warhorse Studios, the developer behind Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, has confirmed that the sequel’s development was constrained by the hardware limitations of the Xbox Series S. This has reportedly led to a smaller game than originally envisioned. While fans have eagerly awaited the sequel to the 2018 action RPG, a new report suggests that modern hardware, particularly the Xbox Series S, significantly impacted the game’s scope.
In recent showcases, Warhorse highlighted exciting features in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, such as a revamped combat system and expansive new areas to explore. The studio is particularly proud of Henry, the protagonist, who now supports diverse play styles and combat strategies. However, the game’s overall size and scale were impacted during development due to hardware constraints, as revealed in a new report.
According to Czech outlet Zing.cz, producer Martin Klíma stated that the Xbox Series S’s limitations, specifically its 10 GB of RAM, posed challenges in realizing the game’s full potential. While the sequel is still larger than the original, the increase in size is limited to about 25%. The Xbox Series S, positioned as a more affordable alternative to the more powerful Xbox Series X, has been identified as a key factor in restricting the sequel’s potential scale.
Warhorse Studios Discusses Xbox Series S Impact on Deliverance 2
Producers have confirmed that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 will support 4K resolution at 30 frames per second on both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Meanwhile, the Xbox Series S version will run at 1440p and 30 frames per second. For PC players, the game will allow up to 80 frames per second at 4K resolution. Despite some limitations in scope, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is shaping up to be a strong successor to its critically acclaimed 2018 predecessor.
Warhorse Studios officially unveiled Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 in April 2024. While the game does not yet have a firm release date, it is expected to launch on modern consoles and PC later in 2024. The sequel introduces significantly improved combat mechanics and more reactive systems. Developers have emphasized that nearly every player decision will carry meaningful consequences, allowing players to shape their journey as either virtuous or villainous, with every action impacting the game world.
