Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Doubles Size of Map
Warhorse Studios has officially unveiled Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 following widespread speculation, with Henry of Skalitz reprising his role as the protagonist. This open-world action RPG is set on a grander scale than its predecessor, with spokesperson Tobias Stolz-Zwilling describing it as a “behemoth” of a game that’s “twice the size” of the original.
What exactly does “twice the size” entail? In an interview with IGN, Stolz-Zwilling explained that this expansion includes various aspects, from the KCD 2 map size and quest volume to the introduction of new features. Notably, the game features two maps, each comparable in size to the entire map of the first game.
Stolz-Zwilling elaborated, “Theoretically, being twice the size could encompass a range of elements, KCD 2 map size, quest numbers, new features… and indeed, it covers a bit of everything. We now have two Kingdom Come: Deliverance II maps, each as expansive as the original game’s map. Additionally, there will be more quests, cutscenes, random encounters, and similar content.”
The team has also overhauled some features from the previous game while introducing new ones, such as crossbows and blacksmithing activities. “If you’re familiar with how we develop our features, you can expect that everything we’ve incorporated is designed to provide deep and engaging gameplay mechanics.”
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is set to launch later this year on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, continuing to utilize the CryEngine for development. Stolz-Zwilling noted that the team continued with this engine due to the customized internal pipelines developed around it. The engine has been significantly modified for the sequel, making it substantially different from typical CryEngine implementations. More details are expected to be released as the launch approaches.
