Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 – The Return of Henry
In the original medieval action RPG Kingdom Come: Deliverance, the protagonist, Henry of Skalitz, began as a humble blacksmith’s apprentice whose life was upended by the brutal murder of his parents, propelling him on a quest for vengeance. Now, in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, we see a more mature and developed Henry on the cusp of true knighthood, deeply entangled in the political and social intricacies of the vibrant city of Kuttenberg.
Tom McKay, the actor behind Henry, along with the Warhorse Studios team, recently shared insights into how Henry’s character has evolved since the first game. Despite his growth, Henry remains a flexible character, shaped by the choices players make, yet still marked by his relationships, such as his friendship with Sir Hans and the unresolved trauma of his parents’ murder.
Henry’s transformation from a nobody to a figure of significant stature was highlighted by Luke Dale, who plays Sir Hans. Dale humorously captured Henry’s journey through a song, underscoring the bond between Henry and Hans while noting that Henry remains a character players can relate to due to his dramatic life changes and the universal struggles he faces.
Prokop Jirsa, the lead game designer, described Henry as still somewhat undefined, presenting a blank slate for players. This openness means that Henry’s path is not set in stone, he could become anything from a revered knight to a notorious criminal, depending on player decisions.
KCD 2 Henry’s Warrior Path:
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II seems set to emphasize Henry’s evolution into a warrior. Promotional materials for the game label him with various tags like “Orphan,” “Bastard,” “Lover,” and prominently, “Warrior.” This shift is fitting given the sequel’s enhanced focus on Henry’s knighthood journey and the expanded, more intricate combat system.
Warhorse Studios has expanded the game’s combat mechanics, offering a richer array of warfare options than its predecessor. Henry will handle everything from crossbows to early firearms, engage in stealthy knife attacks, noble duels, and brutish brawls. This broad spectrum of combat scenarios promises to challenge Henry and players as they navigate the increasingly dangerous world of Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, slated for release in 2024.
